Our National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) team constructed six raised vegetable garden beds this past week out of juniper. The juniper wood is from Eastern Oregon and was purchased from a sustainable lumber company down on 2nd and SE Division Street.

We are now seeking Native families from SE Portland and beyond who would be interested in learning gardening. They can raise vegetables in one of the six beds this summer and fall. There is no charge and we will help to train you.

We are also planning development of agricultural and food processing micro-enterprise opportunities since our Native community statistically experiences the deepest level of poverty of any cultural group.  Contact Rebecca Tait atvolunteer@wisdomoftheelders.org or (503) 775-4014 or if you want to reserve a garden spot for the summer… and please join us at our upcoming event!
