NISA workshop

NISA Master storytellers and emerging tribal tellers gathered for the Northwest Indian Storytellers Association’s Annual Storytelling Retreat on May 11-13 in Roy, Washington.

The Advisory Council of the Northwest Indian Storytellers Association held their annual retreat over the weekend at the Brighton Creek Retreat Center in Roy, Washington.  Advisory Council members invited their emerging tribal storytellers for a weekend of storytelling, open mic and a focus group for Discovering Our Story Project which uses storytelling for the healing of Native Americans from historical trauma.  We also planned this year’s festival on October 26-28.

Mark your calendars for the upcoming 2012 Northwest Indian Storytelling Festival.  It has been scheduled for October 26-28, including Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon at the Native American Student and Community Center at Portland State University, Portland, Oregon. Master tribal tellers will share stories during evening festival events which are open to the public. They will also gather to train a new generation of emerging tribal tellers during daytime workshops. Stay tuned for more information.
