Team Gold with AmeriCorps' NCCC team transform the back gardens at Kelly Butte House

Wisdom’s garden project would not have progressed the way it has without the volunteer dedication of our team from AmeriCorps. Eight very special AmeriCorps’ National Civilian Community Corps team members. Sydney, Lindsey, Colin, Alex, Terrin, Nathaniel, Laura, and Mary have dedicated the last 2 ½ weeks to the development of our 1/3 acre yard at Kelly Butte House as it turns into an educational and organic heirloom vegetable and ethnobotanical garden.

Our garden plan includes an educational garden in the front, with native ethnobotanical and berry plants, and a Three Sisters garden area. In the back we now have 6 raised heirloom vegetable garden beds, and a second Three Sisters garden area (corns, beans and squash). We are terracing the top of the hillside property where we are continuing to plant additional original species of Native berries, including huckleberry, elderberry, raspberry, strawberry, highbush cranberry, chokecherry, currant, serviceberry, salmonberry, and thimbleberry.
